Northland Spartan Varsity scrimmage scheduled for the 26th of October against Blue Valley North at BVN High School. Game time is 4 pm. If you want to play, email Coach Kleiwer no later than 19 October at email@example.com.
Coach Hallett and Coach Reardon would like to query the HS players to identify the interest in fielding 1 or 2 team(s) to participate in the 2nd Annual Butterball Brawl 7 v 7 Lacrosse Tournament on 29 NOV at Rockhurst University. This event is hosted by MDK Sports and team registration is $500. Each team is guaranteed 4 games and the winner gets a cool t-shirt!
We have established a registration page on the NL website for you to register. Registration closes on 19 OCT. We will not ask for payment until we know we have enough players by position to field a team and to provide the final cost (est. 500/10 = $50per player) – we already have 4 or 5 players interested.
To field a team we need the following positions:
3x Middies – 2 on the field at any time
3x ATTK – 2 on the field at any time
3x Long Poles (prefer one being an LSM) – 2 on the field at anytime
The minimum # of players to register is 8 and no more than 10.
We are planning on having a couple of practices to ensure we win the cool t-shirt.
This is a great opportunity for those of you to leverage what you have learned over the summer and fall in a game situation. For some, it will be an opportunity to knock off the rust and get thirsty for some competitive lacrosse .
For the Love of Sparta – Lets pick-up our sticks, get in shape and play some lacrosse,
The Butterball Brawl was started in 2013 to provide a fun opportunity to play some lacrosse over Thanksgiving weekend in Kansas City. The Butterball Brawl is KC's only 7v7 format tournament and is hosted at Rockhurst University. In our first year we had teams from KC, St. Louis, and Nebraska participate in our tournament.
Ryan Howerton and Chris Kliewer shake hands after signing new coaches contract.
KANSAS CITY, MO | Today the Northland Spartans Lacrosse Club announced the hiring of Chris Kliewer to the role of Varsity Head Coach.
"The hiring of Chris Kliewer marks a big day in the history of Northland Lacrosse. We have always had very hard working and dedicated volunteer coaches in the past that have brought the program a long way. With the hiring of a permanent head coach, not to mention one with a proven record like Chris', Northland will be able to move to the next level that we have all worked so hard for. Chris' passion and dedication to the sport are second to none and we expect great things from him in the not too distant future." Said Northland Spartan Board President, Ryan Howerton.
Chris Kliewer most recently comes from Shawnee Mission East where he spent the last four seasons as head coach. During his tenure at East, he guided the Lancers to three straight championships (2011 LAKS and 2012, 2013 LAKC) and a 2014 LAKC semi-final appearance. Prior to becoming head coach at East, he was a varsity assistant at Rockhurst High School. Kliewer's overall head coaching record is 96-34. His teams at East went 33-5 since the conception of the LAKC. During his time at East, Kliewer led the Lancers to be the first team from Kansas City to beat Rockhurst and end their 18 year unbeaten streak against high school teams from kansas City. Kliewer helped develop a 2x US Lacrosse All-American and currently has players from East competing at the NCAA Div. I, II, III and MCLA levels. Kliewer co-founded KC Orange Lacrosse in 2011 with current Rockhurst University head coach, Kevin Kelley, to provide players (boys and girls) around the entire metro area an opportunity to play lacrosse and learn from an accomplished coaching staff. Titanium Lacrosse acquired KC Orange in 2013 and he served as the Director of Titanium Lacrosse over the last year.
“I am extremely excited to be the new head coach with the Northland Spartan Lacrosse program. In my opinion this program is a sleeping giant. There are great players in the Northland and I look forward to developing these players into champions both on and off the field. I am also excited to work with what I feel is a progressive board filled with enthusiasm. I hope to bring the success that I have found at my other stops to the Northland. This program is in my own backyard which will allow me to spend more time with my family,” stated, Kliewer.
Kliewer is the Vice President of the US Lacrosse Great Plains Chapter and is a high school art teacher. He resides in Liberty with his wife and twin boys. Contact Coach Kliewer at
